Photographing the Lowcountry

Join us for a photography course designed for all levels of photographers. South Carolina’s Lowcountry is rich in its beauty of landscapes, vast salt marshes, hardwood and coastal maritime forests and provides photographers with countless opportunities to capture. We’ll visit a variety of picturesque locations including Old Town Bluffton, the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, and Hilton Head Island where we will learn the camera settings and field techniques used to best capture rich images. From the iconic live oaks, to the herons, egrets and alligators that make the Lowcountry their home, this program will provide you with the tools to create beautiful images of this special region. Also, as part of this wonderful experience you will also savor the food of the Lowcountry Region as you enjoy special cuisine found only here.

This Class is open to photographers of all skill levels. There will be an orientation lecture to cover and review some basics as needed such as aperture, exposure, shutter speed and ISO as these apply to your camera, and some intermediate and advanced considerations for photographing landscapes, wildlife, history and architecture in this region. We will explore various lighting at different times of day and in different weather conditions

Activity Particulars:

You will arrive at various field sites using LifeTides 15-passenger bus. Over the course of one day you may walk up to 2 to 3 miles, sometimes over uneven terrain. You are welcome to bring a folding, or umbrella chair or spotting stool for your comfort. All locations are subject to change due to weather and seasonal restrictions due to hunting in the region. So that you can get the most out of your experience all of our photography programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 13:1.

Accommodations: You will be assigned accommodations once you register for the course. All cottages have two private en suites with a shared living area. The accommodations are spacious, comfortable and are in keeping with the architecture of South Carolina’s Lowcountry coastal environment.
