Kayaking in the South Carolina Lowcountry

Learn kayaking skills and begin your adventures

This course is considered as a ’moderately challenging’ endeavor, and is for those who want to develop or reaffirm their kayaking skills. Do you feather paddle? Do you know when to? Do you use torso rotation? If you are doubtful, then this course is for you. Even experienced paddlers can revisit useful skills to enhance their experience. Participants receive paddling and safety instruction (from basic to more advanced) to help them feel comfortable and confident on the water. Expect a minimum of four field trips with a minimum of two hours of kayaking per day, covering a minimum of four miles. Because some outings are in marshes or swamps, where there is little to no dry ground, participants my be required to sit in a kayak for up to three hours without getting out of the boat.

Kayak more of the lowcountry

This course is considered as a more challenging, physical one and is geared towards experienced paddlers with stamina and/or those who have previously taken the less strenuous version we offer and want more paddle trips and greater exploration of this wonderful region. Participants receive advanced instruction on efficient paddling, boat control, trip planning, rescue techniques—all dependent upon the group’s interests and needs. There are a minimum of four field trips. Depending on location and conditions kayakers may paddle from 4 to 11 miles per day. Because some outings are in marshes or swamps, where there is little to no dry ground, participants my be required to sit in a kayak for up to four hours without getting out of the boat.
